What is Reflexology? It still shocks me when people haven't heard about Reflexology since I have known about it since I was a small child. But I know that many people don't so here goes:
The best way for a person to visualize what a Reflexology treatment will be like is to think about it like a cross between acupuncture and massage. Like acupuncture, Reflexology uses specific pressure points that co-ordinate with different body parts. But it doesn't use needles. It uses more massage like techniques. When I look at a person's feet (or hands), I see a mirror image of their whole body. So receiving a Reflexology treatment is like getting a full body massage, but I only touch your feet.
For the individual this can be a real benefit. It means a person doesn't have to disrobe, people often neglect their feet so having them massaged for nearly an hour is a real treat, it allows a person to really put their feet up and relax their mind, it increases blood circulation, breaks up stress and tension that can be built up within the body and because it works with the body as a whole, it returns the body to a state of balance. As a Reflexologist I don't treat, prescribe or diagnose any specific medical condition, but because I work with the body as a whole through the reflex points, a treatment does allow a person's body to heal itself - naturally!
