I remember the day like it was yesterday! The day I saw the fork in my road of life ahead of me (I know, it sounds so cliche, but it's true!!)
I had been working as a Reflexologist for a few years on the side of my full time job. Building a regular base and devoting as much time as I could to becoming a face in the community (around being the mom to a busy pre-schooler). A few years previous when I had returned to my full time job after maternity leave, I had made plans with my employer to gradually transition to part time over a few years. Working part time would allow me to take the next step in my business to continue growing it, while not leaving us in a scary position financially. I was already working 4 days a week and was ready to make the transition to the promised 3 days a week because my son was going to be heading to JK that September. However, my employer had different plans. They no longer felt they could keep their promise to me moving to a 3 day per week schedule.
I was crushed :(
As I drove home that day from work I CLEARLY saw a fork in my road of life and my future ahead of me if I was to take each of the roads. If I stayed on the road I was on, NOTHING would change. I could not grow my business and be an engaged mom in the hours I had available after working 4 days a week in a boring unfulfilling job. And that life did not appeal to me in any way.
Or, I could take this change my employer had as a blessing to take the other road. A leap of faith to focus full time on my business once and for all! Trust myself that I could do what it would take to have a thriving clinical practice that supported both my financial needs, personal needs and family needs. For me the choice was clear. I couldn't sit back and waste my hours at a job that didn't fulfill me. That made me frustrated and bored. I HAD to take the CHANCE and make the CHANGE. But I also had to convince my husband!!
When I got home I immediately sat him down and explained the situation. We ran the numbers and it was actually much easier to convince him than what I thought it would be. We both wanted more for our son then we could provide with me working full time. But financially we had to meet his needs too.
I decided to take the road that led to my business and my family!! I haven't regretted it for one moment. My professional life is spent truly helping others and my personal life is filled with making memories with my son.
