This morning I got a call from a new Grandma that her daughter had given birth at around 9am to a baby girl. I couldn't have been more excited! I have been working with this woman for the last two weeks to naturally prepare her body for labour and birth her baby. I was told the labour was fast (approximately 4 hours) and that mom and baby were doing well! Last week it was an email from a proud new mama who I had also been working with showing me pictures of her new daughter. These moments in my business make it all so rewarding and I am excited to be a part of it!
I love my job! I love that I can work with these woman and share just a tiny bit in the joy of bringing new life into the world. When a pregnant woman comes for reflexology early in her pregnancy, it's amazing to see the changes in her body as reflected in their feet. I love that I can offer these woman improved sleep, ease nausea, and relieve swelling - among so many other things - while also allowing her to relax and release any anxiety. I love that I get to hear birth stories and see pictures of new babies! I love that I can be a part of the maternity "team" and match natural health with mainstream.
Other Reflexologists or business professionals might find it strange that I would love such work. I mean these woman in some cases are only clients for up to 9 months. Leaving me constantly searching for more woman to work with! And you know what, I LOVE that. Sometimes they do become clients for longer because they have seen the value of reflexology. Sometimes they move forward with me in this new stage of life by taking infant reflexology. Either way, I love that for this brief period of time I can make a big difference in a woman's health.
Being pregnant can really cause crazy issues in our bodies. Doctors often pat us sweetly on the hand and explain how these issues will all go away - after birth. But that's not true. Many of these things can be safely and naturally helped with reflexology. Everything from nausea and vomiting in first trimester to swollen ankles and heart burn in the third trimester to regulating contractions once labour has started. We don't have to suffer through pregnancy and to believe we do is just a myth. Relief is at hand. I caution to ensure you seek help from a skilled professional who has obtained additional reflexology training to work with pregnant woman, but outside of that you are good to go!
Are you pregnant or do you know someone who is? Are you interested in learning more about how reflexology can help you have a healthy pregnancy and labour? Email me for more information! I love to share knowledge. I also offer Doula services if you feel you need more than just the reflexology. Let's talk more about it soon! Until then, I'm off to prepare for the next two wonderful woman I am working with and help them prepare for birth naturally.

I can't believe 2011 is over! What a great year for Soul Treatments. This was the first year that outside of my family, my business was my only priority. And dedicating the attention to Soul Treatments proved to be very beneficial to so many people - but mostly to me!!
In 2011, I worked with 8 wonderful woman showing them the benefits of Maternity Reflexology through pregnancy or in preparation for labour. I worked one on one with 2 new Moms showing them how they can use Infant Reflexology to help with common discomforts their baby may have, along with teaching 12 people in class who work with new moms the same techniques and appeared on the local TV show Daytime to tell countless others about the benefits of Reflexology for Infants and Children. I witnessed 2 births and supported the parents through the labour and delivery, along with the first few weeks postpartum. I worked with 8 woman to help them meet their wellness goals through consistent and customized treatments. Not to mention the countless others that did wellness check-ins. Indian Head Massage became a very popular treatment to so many more people this year, either on it's own or combined with Reflexology. And 23 new clients decided to see how Soul Treatments could help them. What a great year filled with great people!!
I learned a lot in 2011. I learned that I can't do this alone! I need others and their support to help me grow, improve and simply keep going each day. Along with that I learned it is ok to ask for help from those important people around me. It doesn't make me weak to need help, it makes me stronger to know that it's available to me. And I've made many friends along this journey by learning this lesson. I learned to delegate! Although this task was important to learn for so many aspects of my life, most important was to delegate control of my health care. Sometimes when you are involved in health care yourself, you think you know what the answers are automatically. But that's not true and I am so grateful to my health team - nutritionist, osteopath, reflexologist and RMT - for helping me keep in the best possible health and teaching me so many things I can tell others to help teach them as well. I learned that when you need a break, you should take it! Going to bed early because I am tired is what I need to do if I want to be any help to anyone the next day, and the work doesn't actually get done when I'm tired anyway so I'm better off to take a break and rest. I learned that losing people hurts, a lot, but that you can and will go on afterwards! It is important to talk about it, if you need to, but sometimes it's important to self reflect as well so that you can move forward. I learned that I have patience and strength beyond what I ever knew and with that I can handle anything life throws my way! I learned that when something isn't working, you should try and find out why and make the changes you need to make so that it does work! You can't make a square peg fit into a round hole, no matter how many times you try. So find the round peg and move on.
Where are all these life lessons going to take Soul Treatments for 2012? First, I am ready to take another class and expand the services of Soul Treatments once again. I'm still deciding between two courses so stay tuned! Second, as my business and my child grow, I think it's time for Soul Treatments to have it's own space - outside my home. So you can expect that some time in the next year or so I will open my own clinic. I still need to put the ideas for that clinic into concrete forms instead of just my head, but it is in the works and I hope to see it happen in 2012 :) If you work in alternative health or run classes that would correspond to the goals of Soul Treatments, and would be looking for a place to call home in the coming year, I will be looking for other practitioners to join the new clinic team so give me a call and we can talk. Thirdly, I will be working hard to make sure that the benefits of Reflexology and other alternative forms of health care are known to people so that they can take control of their health and stop making stress create chaos in their life. Knowledge and empowerment are key!
I can't wait to share 2012 with you!! All the best.
What is Reflexology? It still shocks me when people haven't heard about Reflexology since I have known about it since I was a small child. But I know that many people don't so here goes:
The best way for a person to visualize what a Reflexology treatment will be like is to think about it like a cross between acupuncture and massage. Like acupuncture, Reflexology uses specific pressure points that co-ordinate with different body parts. But it doesn't use needles. It uses more massage like techniques. When I look at a person's feet (or hands), I see a mirror image of their whole body. So receiving a Reflexology treatment is like getting a full body massage, but I only touch your feet.
For the individual this can be a real benefit. It means a person doesn't have to disrobe, people often neglect their feet so having them massaged for nearly an hour is a real treat, it allows a person to really put their feet up and relax their mind, it increases blood circulation, breaks up stress and tension that can be built up within the body and because it works with the body as a whole, it returns the body to a state of balance. As a Reflexologist I don't treat, prescribe or diagnose any specific medical condition, but because I work with the body as a whole through the reflex points, a treatment does allow a person's body to heal itself - naturally!

Have you heard the news? I am going to be discussing and demonstrating the benefits of Infant Reflexology on the May 30th episode of daytime (The Rogers TV show)!! http://www.rogerstv.com/page.aspx?lid=12&rid=64&sid=91
I am so excited to share how parents can easily implement natural health techniques into their daily lives which will help their children better cope with common discomforts such as teething, digestive issues and getting a better sleep.
My passion for sharing these techniques with other new parents began when my own son was 5 weeks old and had not had a bowel movement for a few days. The doctor seemed unconcerned and I might have felt the same way if he wasn't in such obvious discomfort. A few Reflexology treatments that day and the next morning he had a bowel movement!! My relief was probably as great as his. It was then that I knew that other new parents had to learn about this. Being a new parent is overwhelming enough without having to feel helpless when your little one is suffering.
Of course my workshop won't teach you how to be a Reflexologist, but it will teach you some simple techniques that you can use at home with your new child.
If you like what you see on daytime, contact me to register for our next weekly session! 6 weeks, 1 hour each week focusing on a new topic.

We are all concerned about our health, but do we really DO anything about it? Do we actively look for ways to make improvements in our daily life that have positive health benefits? Do YOU have an Optimal Health Plan?
Research shows Reflexology provides effective help for conditions such as PMS, menopause, digestive disorders ( like constipation and IBS), headaches, diabetes, sinus issues (like asthma and allergies), insomnia and regulating blood pressure just to name a few.
So many of the cases of "dis-ease" in our body's are related to the stress we live in day after day. Are you strapped to your desk? Do you eat your lunch on the run? Do you crash in front of an electronic devise as soon as the kids are in bed with a sugary or salty snack and perhaps an alcoholic beverage to forget the troubles of your day?
Simply by lowering a person's stress level and allowing their body an opportunity to "turn off", Reflexology will help increase the body's ability to fight off illness.
Make Reflexology a part of your Optimal Health Action plan today! Call Soul Treatments to book your Reflexology or Indian Head Massage appointment today! 519-220-2887
